  66.    The agenda was abreviated to allow for expanded discussion of the
  67.    IETF/IAB process Working Group.

  75.    The next IESG meetings was set for August 24th, 12:00-2:00 ET.

  77. 2) Protocol Actions

  79.  o PPP Authentication
  80.  
  81.    The current hold up for PPP Authentication is the specification of
  82.    the character set for the comment field in the authentication
  83.    messages.  The IESG is concerned that the IAB and Working Group are
  84.    on a request-change cycle which has no end in sight.

  86. ACTION: SCrocker -- Send a note to Steve Kent listing all known
  87. outstanding issues and attempt to reach closure.

  89.  o TCP/IP Header Compression
  90.  
  91.    There has been no progress in clarifying the needed changes and
  92.    getting a new document published.
  93.  
  94.  o OSI Naming Guidelines for Directory Pilots
  95.  
  96.    There was no objection to the publication of the OSI Naming
  97.    Guidelines for Directory Pilots document.  There is minor
  98.    controversy over the directory scheme.  This proposal is different
  99.    from the North American Directory Forum (NADF) proposal, but it is a
  100.    reasonable suggestion for uniform naming an Internet directory
  101.    system and should be published.

  103. ACTION: Vaudreuil -- Send a notification to Jon Postel to publish the
  104. Internet Draft "Naming Guidelines for Directory Pilots" as an
  105. Information RFC.
  106.  
  107.  o OSI String Representation of Distinguished Names (Proposed Standard)
  108.  
  109.    The IESG is still waiting for a new version of this document
  110.    reflecting changes requested during the last call.
  111.  
  112.  o User Friendly Naming using X.500
  113.  
  114.    This document has been revised at the request of the IAB.  It is now
  115.    intended to be published as an Experimental protocol rather than a
  116.    Proposed Standard.  Because this has been the subject of continuing
  117.    dialogue, the Area Directors for OSI have requested that a last call
  118.    be issued.

  120. ACTION: Vaudreuil -- Issue a Last Call for User Friendly Naming to
  121. Experimental status.

  123.  o Ethernet MIB
  124.  
  125.    The Ethernet MIB is on hold waiting for a revised version.  Several
  126.    MIB objects were requested to be deleted from the MIB rather than
  127.    deprecated.  The IESG agreed that this was reasonable and has asked
  128.    for a revision.

  130. 3) Technical Management Issues
  131.  
  132.  o Process Working Group.
  133.  
  134.    Steve Crocker presented a draft charter of the IAB/IETF Process
  135.    Working Group.  This charter expanded on the charge given the IESG
  136.    by the ISOC president to look at the IAB/IESG/IETF relationship in
  137.    fundamental ways.  The IESG discussed this with the IAB on mailing
  138.    lists and agreed that while some of these additional topics may come
  139.    up in the course of the Working Groups life, the initial charter
  140.    should directly address the charge of the ISOC president.

  142. ACTION: SCrocker -- Refine the Process Working Group charter and
  143. re-submit it to the IESG.
  144.  
  145.  o OSPF Applicability Statement
  146.  
  147.    Phill Gross updated the IESG recommendation to the IAB to smooth
  148.    over some of the more dated material.  This recommendation was
  149.    reviewed by the IAB and was agreed to send it to the RFC Editor for
  150.    publication as an Informational Document after posting as an
  151.    Internet Draft. It is expected that the IAB Applicability Statement
  152.    for OSPF will reference this document.

  154. ACTION: Gross -- Post the revised IESG OSPF AS recommendation to the
  155. IAB as an Internet Draft
  156.  
  157. ACTION: Vaudreuil -- After a period of review, send the OSPF
  158. recommendation to the RFC Editor for publication as an Informational
  159. RFC.
